The Most Paranoid Man in America

Rolling Stone magazine has a rather in-depth profile of Alex Jones in this month's issue. I have to admit. The drawing of him is pretty good.

It's just past 9 a.m. when Alex Jones pulls his Dodge Charger into a desolate parking lot in Austin. From the outside, the squat, single-story office complex that Jones calls his "command center" resembles a moon base surrounded by fields of dying grass. But inside, blinking banks of high-tech recording gear fill the studio where he broadcasts The Alex Jones Show, a daily talk show that airs on 63 stations nationwide. Jones draws a bigger audience online than Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck combined — and his conspiracy-laced rants make the two hosts sound like tea-sipping NPR hosts on Zoloft.

Really? Because according to everything I've found online, this statement is complete utter bullshit, as Rush and Beck are in the top 5, and Alex Jones doesn't even RANK on the list. Which is sad because Coast to Coast does.

I call bullshit.

Isn't that article about two months old? It starts off with "Five days ago, a mentally disturbed 22-year-old named Jared Loughner opened fire on a crowd in Tucson, Arizona"

I am not sure how they are measuring it, but I if they are talking on-line only it could be true. As far as radio listeners go, of course, they aren't even in the same ballpark.

Gotta love this detail:

"In Austin, Jones quit football and smoking pot ("It made me paranoid")..."

Like Alex isn't already more paranoid than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Thats probably true for TV & radio, but figure AJ probably has a much large base globally. He feeds anti-American sentiment and fear. Major market draw.

I'm sure he means "online." There's no way a show on 63 stations is outdrawing Beck or Limbaugh. Those guys are on hundreds of stations. And any host truly capable of competing with those two would be on more than 63 stations.

And I can believe AJ has the largest web radio audience. Limbaugh and Beck have little need for webcasts, since they're on live in pretty much every city in America, plus television in Beck's case. And Jones makes extensive use of the Interwebs to promote himself. The medium suits him well.

And most of their followers are not exactly bright tech savvy people. Just backwards old people who can't handle change, all that new fangled stuff. "Why in my day we used a crystal set radio, don't make them like that anymore"

And Bill O'Reily still hasn't figures out how the tides work.

My first exposure to Alex Jones was about ten years ago, with a British TV documentary (by Jon Ronson) called 'Secret Rulers of the World'. This was before 9/11, BTW.

I've tried to find it on Youtube, but I remember Jones going completely fucking spastic on camera at the end of this particular episode, and thinking (1) this man is a nut and (2) this nut happens to live in a US city that I've visited and happen to like.

sorry...but even beck and el druggo's numbers are bullshit

los angeles is the number 2 market, and beck is on a rinky dink station no one listens to

the reason the druggie's numbers are so big is because of the number of stations he is on

and dont diss coast to coast...i love that show....cuz they treat nutters like sane people....someone has to

you can listen to that show for hours and hear guys babble on and say absolutely nothing

Well, I'd put it a little more nicely and say Jones has a "younger demographic." But you're on target there.

Great article. Especially loved Jones' reason for stoping pot. "It made me parinoid".
